Additional works in the spirit of gangster art-
General synopsis: In most writing and cinema, past and present, a common central theme is for the main character to set himself free in some manner. Usually it is to move from a state of mass mind into a state of individuality, that is, from the collective to the singular. This is where Chinatown Frankie P is different. Throughout most of the work, he strives to shed individuality and to enter mass mind, to disguise himself in it. He gets everything backwards. At one point, Frankie P is proud to have transformed himself from an aging dinosaur into a mass-minded man, a man of the present. Ultimately, however, he can never quite shed his Chinatown mentality. |
